J.W. Haynes, 84, of Vernon, died on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 in Vernon. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday March 19, 2015 at the Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel with Dave Winn officiating. Interment will follow at Wilbarger Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Haynes was born on Sept. 12, 1930 in Rayland. He was the son of the late Thomas Jeptha Haynes and the late Ida Eva Creager Haynes. He married LaWanda Jewel Mullens on Dec. 18, 1953 in Vernon. He had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict from Jan. 26, 1956 to Nov. 27, 1957. He had worked for Vernon Manufacturing Company for 40 years as cutting room supervisor. He was a member of the Wilbarger Street Church of Christ and had been a resident of Wilbarger County all of his life.
Surviving are his wife, LaWanda Haynes of the home; one son, Randall Haynes of Vernon; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and four brothers.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at the funeral home.
