Barbara Burdette King

Barbara Burdette King went home to be with her Lord on
February 28th, 2020. She was surrounded by close friends
and family when she departed for the glories of Heaven.
Barbara was born in Connellsville, Pa. on May 17, 1955.
She moved with her family to Dallas, Texas in 1959. After
graduating from Kimball High School in Dallas in 1973,
she attended The University of Texas (Austin), where she
graduated with a business degree in marketing in 1977.
While at the University, she met her future husband, best
friend and the love of her life, Dennis King. Barbara and
Dennis were married on March 20, 1982. Barbara lived in
Southlake with Dennis until the time of her death.
Barbara was truly a gift to all who knew her. She was
kind-hearted and sweet-natured to everyone she met.
Her priorities were her faith, family and friends. She
was extremely gifted and talented in many ways and had
a servant’s heart. In addition to being a devoted wife,
mother, and homemaker, she was an interior designer and
decorator, landscaper, fl orist and expert home remodeler.
There are many beautifully remodeled homes, stunning
fl oral arrangements and landscape projects which exist today as a result of her hard work and
expertise.
She was a member of Countryside Bible Church from the time she moved to Southlake
in 1993 until the time of her death. While at Countryside she served on the Decorating
Committee, assisted with the Crown Ministry Christmas gift baskets for shut-ins and widows,
and helped with the Vacation Bible School program. Barbara also attended Bible Study
Fellowship (BSF) for 12 years. Eight of those 12 years were as a discussion leader, where
she led and facilitated a group of approximately 15 ladies each week as they reviewed and
discussed their Bible lessons.
Barbara’s life was guided by her Christian faith. She always said she just wanted to live
a simple life as God desires for us. She wanted her mind to dwell only on “whatever is true,
whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of
good repute and anything worthy of praise.” Phil 4:8 She was most proud of her two sons and
knew they were gifts from God. She prayed for them daily. Barbara looked forward with joy
to the birth of her fi rst grandchild, Colin Burdette King, but the Lord in His sovereignty had
other plans and called her home early.
Barbara was preceded in death by her wonderful parents, Don and June Burdette, and a
brother, Allen Burdette. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Dennis King; son, Brad
King and his wife Kelly (and their son Colin who is due June 25), son, Reid King; brothers
Bob Burdette of Houston, Elliott Burdette of Dallas, Mark Burdette (and his wife Carolyn) of
San Diego and Brad Burdette (and his wife Erin) of Dallas. She is also survived by numerous
nephews, nieces, grandnieces and a grandnephew.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Barbara will be held on Saturday, March
7, at 3 p.m. at Countryside Bible Church, 250 Countryside Court, Southlake, Tx 76092.
In lieu of fl owers, the family suggests donations be made to either Countryside Bible
Church, Southlake, Texas 76092 (www.countrysidebible.org/give) Barbara King Memorial
Fund(Benevolence) or Bible Study Fellowship International (bsfi nternational.org).

I worked with Dennis at Rosewood Property in the 80’s. He is a wonderful person. If there is a way to pass this along to Dennis please tell him I am sorry for his loss. Barbara sounded like a wonderful person. I know he is so sad.
