Fatality accident in Wichita County

A Wichita Falls man was killed Friday night when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a semi in the opposite lane on US 287 west of Iowa Park.

Francisco Javier Munoz, Jr., 24, was pronounced deceased at the scene from injuries he suffered during the crash near Burnett Ranch Road.

Munoz was reported to be traveling northwest on US 287 when his 2009 Ford F250 truck blew a tire, went into the center median through the cable barrier and into incoming traffic.

The driver of the semi, Roman De La Cruz Umana, 53, of Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, was traveling southeast on US 287 and attempted to avoid the collision before hitting Munoz’s vehicle head-on.

Both vehicles traveled southeast after colliding and eventually came to a stop in the median.

De La Cruz Umana was treated for minor injuries but was not transported.

Iowa Park Volunteer Fire Department was summoned to the crash at approximately 8:45 pm to douse the burning of both vehicles. The crash is still under investigation.
