Former jailer indicted in ‘food for sex’ case

The 46th Judicial District empaneled grand juries in Wilbarger, Hardeman and Foard Counties last week. Cases were presented by District Attorney Jon Whitsitt. Indicted individuals are presumed innocent until a court verdict is rendered.
Corey Allen Johnson, 39, Chillicothe was indicted on two counts of Violation of Civil Rights of Person in Custody, both 2nd Degree Felonies and one count of Prohibited Substance in a Correctional Facility, a 3rd Degree Felony.
Johnson was working as a jailer at the Wilbarger County Jail at the time of his alleged offenses in early October 2024. A Texas Ranger reportedly interviewed Johnson, after reports of misconduct were made by jail staff. The Ranger allegedly said Johnson admitted to taking two female inmates out of their cells and having sex (violation of civil rights of person in custody) in the property room and that he gave the inmates extra food and medicine. Johnson also allegedly supplied the female inmates a vape (prohibited substance in a correctional facility) when he came on duty and then collected it at the end of his shift.
Including Johnson, the Wilbarger County Grand Jury, meeting at the courthouse in Vernon, delivered 14 indictments against 10 individuals on Tuesday, January 14. Other indictments included:

— Jeremy Pat Tipps, 36, Vernon – Evading Arrest or Detention in a Motor Vehicle (3rd Degree Felony)
— Jimmy Schmoker – 62, Vernon – Tampering with Evidence (3rd Degree Felony Felony)
— Samuel Roberts – 25, Cleveland, Texas – Possession of a Controlled Substance (State Jail Felony)
— Tarius Taylor – 53, Amarillo – Possession of Marijuana (State Jail Felony)
— Terin Rogers – 26, Vernon – Ct. 1 – Aggravated Assault w/ a Deadly Weapon (2nd Degree Felony) Ct. 2 – Assault Family Violence Strangulation (3rd Degree Felony) Ct. 3 – Unlawful Restraint (3rd Degree Felony)
— Markceasie Hall – 22, Vernon – Continuous Assault Family Violence (3rd Degree Felony)
— Michael Grantom – 40, Vernon – Possession of a Controlled Substance (State Jail Felony)
— Shawn Fisher – 31, Vernon – Possession of a Controlled Substance (State Jail Felony)
The Foard County Grand Jury met at the courthouse in Crowell and indicted two individuals in Crowell on Wednesday, January 15. Indictments were returned against:
— Cesar David Torres – 34, Wichita Falls – Possession of a Controlled Substance w/ Intent to Deliver (1st Degree Felony)
— Richard Ford – 58, Crowell – Possession of a Controlled Substance (State Jail Felony)
The Hardeman County Grand Jury, meeting in Quanah, returned four indictments against three individuals on Thursday, January 16. Indictments include:
— John Henry Woodard – 64, Quanah – Evading Arrest w/ Prior (State Jail Felony)
— Toby Madden – 46, Union Grove Washington – Evading Arrest or Detention in a Motor Vehicle (3rd Degree Felony)
— Flint Hill – 33, Quanah – Ct. 1 – Assault Family Violence w/ Previous Conviction (3rd Degree Felony) Ct. 2 – Aggravated Assault w/ Deadly Weapon (2nd Degree Felony)
