Driver Injured in Truck Wreck on U.S. 287
A tractor-trailer overturned Thursday morning, Nov. 6, into the median of U.S. 287 near Oklaunion, trapping the driver inside the cab of the truck. First responders, including Vernon Fire Department, Wilbarger County Sheriff’s Department, and DPS, responded to the incident. Two tow trucks, and extrication tools used by Vernon firefighters were used to extricate the driver from the wreckage. Following is a statement from DPS Sgt. Juan L. Gutierrez:
“A truck-tractor semi-trailer (TTST) was traveling West on US 287. The driver failed to drive in a single lane and entered the center median. The TTST then rolled in the center media before coming to a stop. The driver was entrapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated. The driver sustained serious injuries and was flown to United Regional in Wichita Falls.”
