Donald W. Horton

   Donald W. Horton, 71, of Quanah, Texas passed away on July 21, 2014 in his home with his family at his side following a lengthy illness.
   Don was born Jan. 9, 1943 in Quanah. He was raised by his grandparents, Walter F. and Artie Belle Williams. He attended Quanah schools and was a graduate of Tarleton State University. Don loved agriculture and the outdoors.  He was a farmer/rancher and later a vocational agriculture teacher.  He was a pilot and was owner/operator of a spraying service. Don also operated a water well/windmill service.  He retired from North Texas State Hospital at Vernon, Texas.  His hobbies included fishing, and camping in Colorado and spending time in his woodworking shop.  Don was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
   Don is survived by Carlene of the home; a brother, Thomas Horton and wife Judy of Quanah, and sister Linda Daughtery and husband Ken of Wheeler, Texas;  children, Debra Mobley and husband Gene of Iowa Park, Texas, Donald Horton, Jr. and wife Linda of Lubbock, Texas, Rebecca Edwards of Quanah, Texas, Katy Boaldin and husband Justin of Quanah, Texas, Scotty Von Tungeln and wife Elizabeth of Vernon, Texas, Pamela Dabbs and husband Scott of Quanah, Texas, 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
   Services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the First Baptist Church with Eric Brooks and Rob Hicks officiating. Interment will follow in Quanah Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.  Memorial gifts may be given to Hospice of Wichita Falls or the American Cancer Society.

   Visitation will be Wednesday 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Quanah
