John (Salty) Selman
John (Salty) Selman, 72 of Vernon, died on Sunday, July 20, 2014, in Vernon. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 23, at the First Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Kelly Russell. Internet will be held at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Salty was born Saturday, Oct. 25, 1941 in Vernon. He was the son of the late Thomas Hayden Selman and the late Lois Jo Hardison Selman. He married Patricia Greenway on Aug. 13, 1965 in Vernon. He had lived in Vernon all of his life. He served in the US Navy Corpsman attached to the 2nd Marines Division as a Field Medic, serving in Italy, Sicily, Santo Domingo and Cuba. He was a member of American Legion and served as post commander, He was a teacher in Burkburnett in 1968, and in 1970 he taught in Vernon, He was also at Harrold and Northside schools as a coach and teacher. He retired in 1992. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Patty Selman of the home; one son, Casey Selman and wife, Carla, of Seymour; three grandchildren, Cole, Clinton and Courtney.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at Sullivan Funeral Home.
Memorials can be made to First Baptist Church or American Heart Association.
