Edgar Lee “Ed” Dowty

   Edgar Lee “Ed” Dowty, 75, of Vernon, Texas, died on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015 in Wichita Falls. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015 at 2 p.m., at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Gib Baskerville and Rev. Toby Castleberry officiating. Interment will follow at Wilbarger Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
   Ed was born on Jan. 7, 1940 in Dimmitt. He was the son of the late James Louis Dowty and the late Martha Finney Dowty. He married Diana Fowler, and she preceded him in death in 1994. He then married Patsy Tucker on June 23, 1995 in Abernathy. He had moved to Vernon in 1979. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He had been a Cub Scout leader and past member of Crime Stoppers. He was a retired inspector for the Texas Department of Agriculture. He had also been a service manager for John Deere, principal at Hartley High School, an instructor in mechanics at Vernon College and was a farmer.
   He is survived by his wife, Patsy Dowty of the home; two sons, John Ed Dowty, wife Brandi and grandson Justin of Red Oak; Tracy Lee Dowty, wife Connie of Weatherford and grandson Travis Lee Dowty of South Korea; grandson, Jack William Dowty and granddaughter Kate Elizabeth Dowty, both of Ransom Canyon; one daughter, Lori Jane Dowty of Austin; three sisters, Clara Harp and husband Elbert of Wylie
   Delle Moore and husband Richard of Dimmitt and Nell Henley of Lubbock; one brother, Frank Dowty of Dimmitt; 17 nieces and nephews.
   He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Diana; brothers, David Pete Dowty and Jim Dowty and one sister, Ann Heck.
   Pallbearers will be Norman Brints, Charles Cook, Frank Berngen, Fred Fox, Bill Martin, Ray Leasure, Emory Boring and Bob Armstrong, all member of Ed’s Sunday School Class at First Baptist.
   Visitation will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Tuesday Sept. 15, 2015 at the funeral home.
   The family is grateful to Hospice of Wichita Falls for their exceptional care during Ed’s illness.
