J.A. Furr

   CHILDRESS – J.A. Furr, 90 of Childress, died on Monday, Oct. 12, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 16, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church in Childress with Rev. Freddy Stice officiating. Interment will follow in Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.
   J.A. Furr was born on Nov. 4, 1924 in Cherry Hill, Ark. to Clyde and Lula (Lackey) Furr.  His family came to Texas in 1928.  He went to work for the Fort Worth and Denver Railroad in October 1948 as an engineer. He worked for them through many transitions, and eventually retired in 1983 after they became Burlington Northern. J.A. married Winona Bostick, on Aug. 12, 1950 in Childress.
   Survivors include his wife, Winona, of the home; two sons, Gary of Connecticut, and Rick of New Mexico; one brother, James “Furr” Standridge of Vernon; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
   Memorials may be made to CRMC Hospice or Calvary Baptist Church of Childress.
