Leonard (Len) Miller
QUANAH – Leonard (Len) Miller, 99 of Quanah, died on Monday, Nov. 9, 2015, in Quanah. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Chillicothe. Officiating will be Rev. James Keenum and Rev. David MacDonald. Interment will be held at Bell Cemetery in Odell under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Miller was born Saturday, Jan. 8, 1916 in Walbash County, Ind. He was the son of the late Otto Miller and the late Elsa Ridgeway Miller. He married Melba Jean Haynes on Nov. 5, 1946 in Lockett. She preceded him in death on Jan. 30, 2007.
Miller served in the U.S. Army Air Corp 1943 to 1946 during World War II. He was a pilot trainer and flight Instructor for Victory Field. In 1953 he moved to Odell to farm. He was owner and operator of Odell Flying Service from 1960 to 1998. He was manager of the Quanah Airport for 35 years from 1980 until present. He was TxDot Airport Manager of the year in 1996. In 2013, he received the Texas Aviator of Year award from Texas Aviation Conference at the age of 97. He had flown more than 200 different aircrafts and taught over 3,500 students to fly. He was a member of Odell School Board.
Miller was a member of Odell Baptist Church and taught Men’s Sunday School Clas. He attended the First United Methodist Church in Chillicothe.
He is survived by three daughters, Lenna White of Anadarko, Okla., Vicki Flynn of Chillicothe and Candy Shafer of Chillicothe; one brother, Orlin Miller of La Fontaine, Ind.; one sister, Wilma Jean (Billie) Terrell of Waldo, Fla.; nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and a brother Jake Miller, and two sisters, and a brother in Indiana.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015 at Sullivan Funeral Home.
