Melva Doris “Pete” Ratliff

   Pete went to be with the Lord peacefully and will be missed dearly by her family and friends. Pete was always very boisterous and outspoken which people loved. Her personality was bigger than life and she will always be remembered for her witty remarks. Pete was a devout Christian her entire life teaching Sunday School and following the Lord’s word.
   Pete traveled the world with her husband throughout his career in the Air Force as an Air Force fighter pilot retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. Being stationed abroad in Japan, South Korea and Alaska and numerous domestic Air Force Bases and loved seeing the world. She enjoyed gardening, farming, playing bridge and was an avid golfer making a hole in one was a story she loved to tell.
She and her husband owned  Sports Center in Vernon after his retirement. While living in Vernon they lived on a farm where they enjoyed spending time with their family and friends. Once they decided to close the Sporting Goods store they continued their travels spending most of their time in Colorado and Arizona before moving to Wichita Falls, Texas. She had numerous friends and nurses out at Rolling Meadows and will be greatly missed by many.
    She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence E. Ratliff, daughter Shannon L. Guzman, father Walter Smith, mother Winnie Wilson, brothers Clyde and Gene Smith.
    She is survived by her sister Joy Case and her husband Bob, son Michael Ratliff and his wife Donna, daughter Patricia Ratliff, son in law Raymond Guzman; her grandchildren Shawna Guzman, Chris Guzman, Patrick Anderson, Michael Ratliff, and Matthew Ratliff, and great- grandchildren Aubrey Guzman and Eric Mead.
    There will be a private service with the family and they ask that in lieu of flowers donations be made to The Good Samaritan Fund at Rolling Meadows of Wichita Falls.
