Garland Harman Caldwell
Garland Herman Caldwell, 98, of Quanah, , passed away Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, in Quitman, A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 19, 2015 at The Chapel at Smith Funeral Home with Wayne Ron Shultz officiating.
Garland was born, Feb. 3, 1917, to the late William Franklin and Mary Robinett Caldwell in Medicine Mound. He married the late Dorothy Bellamy Caldwell on June 2, 1946 in Medicine Mound. She preceded him in death on Aug. 13, 2011. He was a lifetime resident of Hardeman County and a member of the First United Methodist Church. He worked for Georgia Pacific for 23 years and was a farmer. He was a First Lieutenant in the Air Corps at the time of his separation from the United States Army, receiving the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters and the EAME Campaign Medal with three Bronze Service Stars. He was a B-24 Bomber pilot. He received credit for 55 bombing missions. He was stationed in the Rome-Arno, Southern France, Germany as well as the United States.
He is survived by two daughters, Norma Fitzpatrick, Holly Lake Ranch, Texas, and Beverly Havins, Wichita Falls; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Garland Kent Caldwell; two brothers, Kennith Caldwell and Royce Caldwell, and one sister, Edrie Bailey.
