Anna Ruth Downs Whitley
CROWELL – Anna Ruth Downs Whitley, 79, of Crowell, died on Friday, Jan. 1, 2016 in Crowell. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at the First Christian Church in Crowell under the direction of Gerald McLain, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Ron Fox, pastor of the Western Trails Cowboy Church, Lockett. Interment will follow at Quanah Memorial Park under the direction of Womack-Manard Funeral Home, Crowell.
Whitley was born on April 8, 1936 in Reed, Okla., a daughter of the late A.D. and Louise Smith Downs. She married Roy Merl (Ace) Whitley on Jan. 4, 1954 in Quanah. She was a longtime resident of Crowell. She was a 1954 graduate of Quanah High School. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Crowell. She was a longtime employee for the Foard County Hospital. She also served as the Justice Of The Peace for Foard County and served as Deputy Clerk for the Foard County Sheriff’s Department, where she retired.
She is survived by her husband, Roy Merl (Ace) Whitley of Crowell; one daughter, Tiffani Shayne Herrera of Abilene; two sons, Jack D. Whitley of Crowell and Paul Whitley of Dallas; one sister, Joy Mitchell of Walters, Okla.; one brother, Joel David Downs of Hurst; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
