Ray Mims
Ray Mims, 74 of Vernon, died on Friday, Jan. 1, 2016, in Vernon. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., on Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2016 at the Faith United Methodist Church with Rev. Hilda Cavazos officiating. Interment will follow at Eastview Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Ray was born on Feb. 13, 1941 in Lawton, Okla. He was the son of the late Sarah Hughes Mims. He married Doris Condo Welborn on March 13, 1988 in Lubbock. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Cuban Conflict. He had been a resident of Vernon since 1994. He was a retired construction employee and was also retired from the Vernon State Hospital where he worked in security. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church. He was also a member of A.A. for 34 years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Surviving is his wife, Doris Mims of the home; three sons, Bud Welborn and wife Lisa of Austin, Alan Welborn of Frisco, and Kent Drury and wife Shana of Vernon; one daughter, Sharon Welborn of Austin; grandchildren, Isaac Schoolcraft, Austin, Blake, Betsy and Isabella Welborn of Austin, Jason and Joshua Welborn of Allen, Amber Burgess and husband Jaron and daughter Brynli of McKinney, Kyle Drury of Edmond, Okla., Koby Drury of Lubbock, and Garrett Munson of Vernon.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday Jan. 4, 2016 at Sullivan Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in Ray’s name to the Faith United Methodist Church.
