Citywide Clean Up Day planned
The City of Vernon will hold its 5th Annual Citywide Clean Up Day from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 30 at the old Gibson’s Discount Center parking lot on Expressway 287.
The city and Progressive Waste will provide a large trash container at the site. Volunteers will be at the site to help with disposal of unwanted bulky items. There will be no dump charges during the event.
Acceptable trash items for disposal will include old furniture including chairs, tables, couches, recliners and lamps; water heaters, clothes washers, dryers, dishwashers, stoves, stereos, TVs (excluding items that contain gaseous refrigerants such as refrigerators, freezers and air conditioning units).
Unacceptable items include batteries, liquid waste, regulated medical waste, asbestos waste and radioactive waste, tires and paint.
Grass trimmings, leaves and debris must be taken to the landfill with no charge that day for limbs and leaves. All other trash must be taken to the Gibson’s parking lot or charges will be assessed. Residents must show a driver’s license with a Vernon address or a current city water bill in to dump trash. Only residential customers, not commercial, are permitted to dump trash that day.
