Indictment in Federal two-state drug investigation

The Wilbarger County Grand Jury recently met and returned more than 40 indictments, including one stemming from a federal investigation into a two-state drug ring.

Steven Anthony Mitchell was indicted for the state jail felony offense of possession of a controlled substance. Mitchell was arrested on Sept. 19, 2019 in Vernon.

On that date five federal drug conspiracy warrants were served, according to Vernon Police Chief Randy Agan, resulting in the arrest of three Vernon residents. Warrants were served in Vernon at 2226 Sand Road and 4515 Cottonwood The arrest was part of a 7-month long narcotics investigation that ended with multiple arrests. The investigation included the Vernon Police Department, Texas DPS Narcotics, 46th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, DEA, Homeland Security, Hardeman County Sheriff’s office and Oklahoma City Police Department.
