The Vernon City Commission met in regular session on Tuesday August 23.
Mayor Pam Gosline called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.
Amanda Lehman, Director of the Vernon Tourism and Main Street Board addressed the Commission, stating that she had met with Tyson Foods representatives and discussed ideas for the upcoming Wright Brands Foods 100-year celebration — Bacon City USA. It was put before the committee that the representatives were asking that a portion of Pease Street be closed during the festivities and she also discussed the possibility of Vernon achieving a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the world’s longest strip of bacon, as it was planned to paint a long giant bacon strip on Pease Street in front of the Wright Pavilion that is currently under construction. After a brief discussion, Commissioners approved Mrs. Lehman’s requests.
More from the meeting is in the print and online editions.
