Texas oldest continuous celebration — Doan’s Picnic planned for May 6
Texas’ oldest continuous celebration of its kind – the Doan’s May Picnic – will be held Saturday, May 6, on the lawn of the county’s oldest standimg structure, the Doan’s Adobe.
The day will begin at 10 a.m. with registration. Entertainment will be by Lauren Akin.
Rochelle White Beam and Randall Mints will serve as masters of ceremony. The Santa Rosa Palomino Club will present the flags, Kaitlyn Beam will lead the pledge to the American flag and to the Texas flag, and Lauren Akin will lead the National Anthem. Invocation and benediction will both be given by Roger Beam.
A barbecue lunch will be served after the coronation.
Highlights of the day will be the recognition of the Doan’s Man and Woman of the Year – Dan White and Lou Quinly Byrd and crowning of the 2023 king and queen.
