Wilbarger traffic stop nets 51 pounds of marijuana

The Texas Department of Public Safety seized approximately 51 pounds of suspected marijuana during a traffic stop in Wilbarger County. The incident occurred when a Texas Highway Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation.

On January 21, 2025, at 7:59 a.m., a DPS Trooper pulled over a 2024 Nissan Altima traveling east on US 287 near Vernon. During the stop, the Trooper discovered several plastic-wrapped bundles of marijuana, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The driver, Charles Andres Nieves, a 32-year-old from Victorville, California, was arrested and booked into the Wilbarger County Jail for felony possession of marijuana and a controlled substance. The drugs were reportedly being transported from California to the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Texas.
