Vernon Police Department Participates in Joint 287(g) Enforcement Operation
On July 13, the Vernon Police Department participated in a joint enforcement operation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Wilbarger County Sheriff’s Office as part of the 287(g) program.
The joint operation resulted in 13 total arrests. Of those arrested, 11 individuals were detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents for immigration-related matters. The individuals detained were nationals of several countries, including Honduras, Cuba, India, Mexico, and Guatemala.
During the operation, two individuals were also arrested on separate criminal charges. Those charges included outstanding warrants, possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
“The Vernon Police Department remains committed to working cooperatively with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to promote public safety, enforce the law, and protect the residents of Vernon and the surrounding community,” said Police Chief Dan Birbeck.
All individuals arrested or charged with a criminal offense are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
