Joyce Virginia Chapman

Joyce Virginia Chapman entered the presence of her
Savior Jesus Christ on Feb. 12, 2025, in Vernon, Texas.
She was born in the Watts family home in Vernon, Texas,
to Roy and Myrtle Watts on July 13, 1929. Joyce and Troy
Alton Chapman, Sr. were married on Feb. 28, 1947. They
enjoyed 53 years together before Troy’s death in 2000.
Joyce was an active member of the Women’s Missionary
Union for over 50 years. She was a member of the Vernon
Garden Club, Wilbarger County Home Demonstration
Club, Vernon China Painting Club, Wilbarger Historical
Commission, a Master Gardener and a Board Member of
Wilbarger County Humane Society. She was chosen as
“Doan’s Picnic Woman of the Year” in 1997. Joyce had the honor of teaching
Sunday School to 4th graders at First Baptist Church.
She is survived by three children, Troy Alton Chapman, Jr. and wife Tammy,
Gary Dwain Chapman and wife Monica, and daughter, Deborah Kay Goodman.
She was blessed with six grandchildren: Jason Chapman and wife Catherine,
Layne Chapman and wife Jamie, Nicole Robertson, Virginia Yeaste and husband
Joshua, and Angela Couch and husband Marty. Great-grandchildren include
Charlotte and Olivia Chapman, Jaxon and Prestyn Chapman, Luke, Benjamin
and Caleb Robertson and Kaylee, William, and John Yeaste and Dylan and Gatlin
Couch. Joyce also leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Troy Chapman, her parents, a brother,
James “Hooks” Watts, and a grandson, Kassidy Chapman.
Visitation was from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, at Sullivan Funeral
Home in Vernon, Texas.
Funeral Services was held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, at First Baptist
Church in Vernon, Burial will follow at Eastview Cemetery.
In lieu of 􀃀 owers, donations can be made to the “Lottie Moon Foreign Missions
O􀵵 ering” through First Baptist Church, Vernon.
