Nancy Abston

Nancy Abston, age 84, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed
away on Jan. 4, 2025. Born on July 24, 1940, in Vernon,
Texas, Nancy was the eldest daughter of Finis and Mildred
Ramsey. Nancy was a loving and faithful wife to her husband
of 66 years and an extraordinary and proud mother who
devoted her life to her four sons and their wives and families,
including ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She
will always be remembered for putting family 􀂿 rst and her
hosting of holiday and other family events.
On Sept. 13, 1958, Nancy married Joe Abston in a
backyard ceremony and reception at her parent’s home in
Vernon. Upon marriage, Joe and Nancy lived in Lubbock,
Texas while Joe attended Texas Tech University and Nancy
worked in retail. Upon Joe’s graduation with an Accounting degree in May 1960,
they moved to Dallas where Joe started working for the CPA 􀂿 rm of Peat, Marwick,
Mitchell & Co (before becoming KPMG). They transferred to the Honolulu, Hawaii
o􀵶 ce for three years (1964-1967) before returning to the Dallas o􀵶 ce. In 1982, they
relocated to Little Rock, Arkansas and remained there after Joe’s retirement as a
Partner from KPMG in 1991.
In retirement, Nancy and Joe enjoyed exploring the beauty of the mountains from
their second home in Breckenridge, Colorado. They also traveled with family and
friends extensively in the US, including Alaska and Hawaii, and in various places in
Europe.
Nancy made deep lifelong friendships in Irving, Texas; Honolulu, Hawaii; and
Little Rock, Arkansas. She enjoyed playing games with friends and volunteering in the
local community, including CARTI in Little Rock, Arkansas. She faithfully attended
the Church of Christ throughout her life.
Nancy’s purpose and enjoyment was in actively supporting her husband and
seeing her sons and their families succeed in life, including their professional careers,
academics, sports, spiritual growth, and other activities. Her priority and passion were
the family and keeping the members closely connected. Nancy’s love and in􀃀 uence
will continue through the lives of her surviving family members who were blessed to
have her in their lives. She demonstrated how to live a life of sel􀃀 ess service to her
family and others and exempli􀂿 ed grace, compassion, and strength every day. Nancy
will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Nancy was preceded by her parents Finis and Mildred Ramsey of Vernon, Texas.
