Jimmie F. Collier

Jimmie F. Collier, 88 of Vernon, Texas, passed away on
Wednesday, March 25, 2026, in Vernon, Texas.
Funeral services was held at 10 a.m., Monday, March 30,
2026 at Wilbarger Street Church of Christ with Mr. Todd Deaver
o൶ ciating. Burial followed at Wilbarger Memorial Park under
the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Jimmie was born Saturday, Sept. 4, 1937, in Truscott, Texas.
He was the son of the late Fletcher Browning Collier and the
late Glennie Rutherford Collier. He graduated as Salutatorian of
the class of 1956 from Lockett High School. He married Gloria
Smithwick on Jan. 20, 1957, in Vernon, Texas. He owned and
operated an antique store in Vernon after retiring from many years in supervisory work
in cotton compresses in Vernon, Quanah, Lovington, NM, and Rule. Then he worked
at the North Texas State Hospital for 10 years. Lastly, he worked making newspaper
deliveries to surrounding towns for the Vernon Daily Record. Jimmie was a member of
the Wilbarger Street Church of Christ. He was a former deacon and Bible class teacher
at the Paradise Street Church of Christ.
Jimmie loved to laugh, and is most remembered for his good-natured smile and
laughter. He enjoyed baseball, as he played in high school and was a little league
coach for his son’s teams. He was a life-long fan of the Texas Rangers and the Dallas
Cowboys. He loved listening to music, doing yardwork, and was an avid collector of
coins, soda boxes, and vintage signs. He could build anything and built several buildings
on his property and also for neighbors. He made many crafts from the soda boxes he
collected. He enjoyed going to Canton and Bowie to craft shows. He worked his huge
garden while raising his family, which fed them, other family, and also the neighbors.
He had many other hobbies over the years, including archery and bird-watching. He
very much enjoyed watching, playing, and laughing with his grandchildren.
Jimmie became a Christian as a young adult and lived his life serving the Lord. He
and his late brother-in-law, Aubrey Smithwick, enjoyed ¿ shing and hunting together and
also went on mission trips together.
Jimmie is survived by his son, Jimmie Dale Collier of Kansas City, Kansas,
his daughter, Donna Jean Collier Prince & husband Randy of Vernon, Texas, ¿ ve
grandchildren, Bradley Collier & wife Karina, Nicole Collier, Bud Collier, Dustin
Prince & wife Ana and Tarin Prince Mulkey & husband Brian, and seven greatgrandchildren, Rylee Collier, Luke Collier, Alba Prince, Ada Prince, Brynley Mulkey,
Mazelyn Mulkey, Maxen Mulkey, and Dustin Richard Prince. Jimmie also leaves
behind two sisters, Mary Bryant of Weatherford, Oklahoma and Nita Carolyn Byers &
husband Randy of Wichita Falls, Texas, and sister-in-law Sandra Smithwick.
Jimmie is preceded in death by his wife Gloria Collier in January 2024, his brother,
B.J. Collier, and his sisters, Dorothy Skipworth, Ora Mae Bishop, Wanda Calvin, Patsy
Perkins. and Anna Chism.
The family would like to thank the sta൵ at Eagle Flats Village and the nurses at
Advanced Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Vernon for taking good care of Jimmie in
his later life.
Visitation was from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Sunday, March 29, 2026, at Sullivan Funeral
Home.
Memorials may be made to Wilbarger Street Church of Christ.
