Triple-digit heat to continue through weekend in Wilbarger County

Triple-digit temperatures will continue across Vernon and Wilbarger County through the weekend and into Monday, with little relief expected other than overnight lows in the upper 70s.

The National Weather Service in Norman, Oklahoma, is forecasting sunny and hot conditions Saturday with a high near 105 degrees. South winds are expected at 5 to 8 mph. Saturday night should be clear with a low around 77.

Sunday will remain sunny and hot, with a high near 104. South winds of 7 to 11 mph are expected during the day before temperatures fall to around 77 Sunday night. No precipitation is included in the Vernon point forecast for Sunday.

The heat will continue Monday, although temperatures could ease slightly. The Weather Service forecasts a high near 103 under sunny skies, followed by a clear Monday night with a low around 77.

Forecasters said a high-pressure ridge will keep the region hot and mainly dry through the weekend and into the middle of next week. The Weather Service said triple-digit temperatures will continue with at least a moderate heat risk across the region.

Saturday could again produce heat-index readings high enough to reach heat-advisory criteria across portions of the region, although no weekend heat advisory for Wilbarger County had been posted as of late Friday morning.
