Luther fields Jr.
Luther Fields, Jr., 85 of Vernon, died on Sunday, March 16, 2014, in Vernon. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 19, at Wilbarger Memorial Park. Officiating will be the Rev. Harold Brown. Interment will be under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Fields was born Thursday, May 31, 1928 in Rush Springs, Okla. He was the son of the late Luther Fields, Sr. and the late Molly White Fields. He married Martha Cuthbertson, who preceded him in death in September of 1980. He later married Sue Reynolds in August of 1981 in Vernon. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War, serving in the infantry. He received the Korean Service Medal, and the Bronze Star. He was a volunteer at the V.A. Center in Amarillo. He retired from the Texas Hwy Dept. Road Construction. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church and was an ordained Deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Fields of the home; two sons, Luther Fields III of Hereford, Ariz., and William (Butch) Fields of Vernon; one daughter, Beth Pierce of Arkansas; three step-sons, Walter Krieg Jr. of Coppell, Gary Krieg of Vernon, Matt Moore of Amarillo, and one step-daughter, Cindy Schiwart, of Vernon; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha Fields; four brothers, David Fields, Bob Fields, J.D. Fields and Billy Joe Fields, and two sisters, Zora Mahan, Zada Randall.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m., until service time at Sullivan Funeral Home.
Memorials can be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls.
Pallbearers will be Walter Krieg, Gary Krieg, Michael Krieg, Mark Schiwart, Curtis Mark Schiwart and Eldon Garrett.
