Gilbert E. Wilson
Graveside service for Gilbert E. Wilson, 75, of Vernon, who died on Saturday, April 12, 2014 in Vernon, will be held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Eastview Cemetery with the Rev. Willie King officiating. The service is under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home of Vernon.
Wilson was born on June 29, 1938 in Sulpher Springs. He was the son of the late Marrin Edward Wilson and the late Retha Mae Petty. He married Mary Sue Holt in Vernon in August 1960. She preceded him in death on April 27, 1991. He was raised in the Chillicothe, Farmers Valley and the Vernon area. He had worked for the Vernon Daily Record for a short time. He later moved to Dallas where he worked at Flemings Egg Farm. He then moved to Houston and began working doing carpentry work and painting. He returned to Vernon in 1974, living here until his death. He also owned Wilson’s BBQ in Vernon.
Surviving are his children: Susan Wilkerson, Linda Rushing and Richard Wilson, all of Vernon; Eva Reed of Runaway Bay and Marcy Gonzales of Bridge City; two brothers, Bill Wilson of Burkburnett and Buddy Wilson of Weatherford; one sister, Joan Bailey of Iowa Park; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and three nieces and six nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one son, Gilbert Edward Wilson.
