Harry Whitley

   CROWELL – Harry Whitley, 84, died on Monday, April 21, 2014, in Foard County. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, April 24, 2014 in the Crowell Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Fox, pastor of the Western Trail Cowboy Church of Lockett, officiating. Interment will be under the direction of Womack-Manard Funeral Home, Crowell.
   Whitley was born on Oct. 18, 1929 in Shannon, a son of the late James George and Frances Mae Webb Whitley. He married Charlotte Wanell McDonald on Oct. 4, 1950 in Paducah. Whitley worked for the Douhitt Ranch Co., Hapgoods, Andrew Smith, Scheers, Halsells and other cattle people. In 1947, he went to work for the W.T. Waggoner Estate. He also worked for the Matador Land and Cattle Co., S.B. Burnett, Tom L. Burnett, Hayhooks, Howard E. Smith, Muleshoe Cattle Co., The Buckle L and S.J. Ranch. In 1956, the couple moved to the Muleshoe in Archer County and later to southwest of Henrietta. On June 1, 1964, Whitley was hired as foreman of the Clay County Ranch for the Furd Halsell Estate, later the Glenn Halsell Cattle Co., where he and his wife lived for 17 years. They moved to Foard County in 1982 and worked on the John Glenn Halsell Three Circle Ranch, where Whitley was employed for 49 years until the time of his death.
   He is survived by his two sons, George (Tooter Bill) Whitley of Thornberry and Kevin Whitley of Margaret; one granddaughter; two brothers, Edd Whitley of Henrietta and Don Whitley of Pecos; one sister, Sally Jump of Iowa Park; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife on March 27, 2009.
   Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Womack-Manard Funeral Home.
   Memorials may be made to the Amarillo SPCA and the Diabetes Association.
