Dr. Frankie E. Williams

   AUSTIN – Funeral services for Dr. Frankie E. Williams, who died on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 in Austin, will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks in Austin, officiated by the Rev. Pat Thomas of St. John’s United Methodist Church.  Interment will be at Spring Creek Cemetery in Avoca.
   Williams was born in Stamford on Aug. 28, 1929 to Edith Cockrell Williams and Carlton Albert Williams.
   She received her M.D. degree from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas in 1956 and completed her internship at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth in 1957. She was employed at Big Spring, Texas State Hospital from 1958 to 1969.  In 1975, she was appointed superintendent of Vernon State Hospital.   She was also named deputy commissioner for Mental Health Services at the Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation, State of Texas, serving from 1986 to 1989.  After retirement from MHMR, Williams served outpatient clinics in Central Texas for several years.
   She is survived by a brother, John Williams of Fritch; two nephews, one niece, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father, Carlton Williams in 1956, and by her mother, Edith Cockrell Williams, in 1989.
   Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7p.m., on Monday, June 2, 2014 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home, 6300 W. William Cannon Drive in Austin.
