Verner Brown Sr.

   Verner Brown, Sr., 89 of Vernon, died on Saturday, June 21, 2014, in Vernon. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2014 at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Robert Thomas and Rev. Darrell Willie. Interment will be held at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
   Brown was born Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1924 in Waco. He was the son of the late Mark Brown and the late Bessie Austin Brown. He married Almeta Courtney on April 25, 1944 in Waco. She preceded him in death on July 20, 2003. He had lived most of his life in Vernon. He was owner and operator on Brown Paint & Body Shop 1968 to1992. He was a member of Wood Street Baptist Church.
   He is survived by two sons, Dewayne Brown and Mark Brown, both of Vernon; four daughters, Gwendolyn Rogers of Vernon, Loretta Anders of Albuquerque, N.M.,  Betsy L. Bradford of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Pamela McKinney of Saginaw, Mich.; one brother, Johnny Brown of Waco; one sister, Willie Mae Naylor of Waco; 70 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a daughter, Debra Brown on April 5, 2006, a son Verner Brown Jr., and a grandson, Alexander Williams.
   Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 26, 2014 at Sullivan Funeral Home.
