Jessie Marie McGahan

   Jessie Marie McGahan, was born Jan. 26, 1915 in Sherdian, Ark. and was lifted by the Angels to meet her Lord face to face on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014 in Vernon. Jessie was one of three children born to Dennie and Myrtle Reese Payton.
   Jessie worked in Civil Service many years, starting at Randolph Field in San Antonio, Midland Bombardier School, in Midland, Mare Island Naval Base, Vallejo, Calif., US.Navy, Agana Guam and US Army in Alaska. She also worked at the MHMR State Hospital in Wichita Falls, and Center North in Vernon. Jessie was a care giver for many people in Vernon before being forced to retirement. Jessie was an avid traveler and was always very active. In 1970, she visited East Germany and many other European countries. She was an active member of the Vernon Chapter #424 Order of Eastern Star as an officer. She was a former member of First Baptist Church, Rachel Sunday School Class and Shekinah Choir She was a member of the Western Trail Cowboy Church.  She was also active at Chaparral Congregate Meals, Golden Age 42 Club and several senior citizen activities.
   She is survived by one son, Bobby Riley of Lantana; two daughters, Dolores Bettes of Vernon and Sarah Cortiss of Carbon; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
   She was preceded in death by her loving husband, W.R. (Mac) McGahan; her parents; two brothers, Bob Payton and Dee Payton; one son, Sim Riley, and one great-grandson, Shane Wells.
   Jessie will be missed by her family who loved her and by all her friends. She will be resting in the arms of her Lord and remembered by all she left behind. Her celebration of life will be held Friday, Aug. 8, 2014 at 1 p.m., at Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Ron Fox and the Rev. E.J. Tyson. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in the Archer City Cemetery, Archer City. Services are under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
   The family will receive visitors from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014 at Sullivan Funeral Home.
