Carmen Garcia Alcantar, Jr., 77, of Quanah, passed away Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, in Wichita Falls. Funeral Mass is scheduled for 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Joseph Joy and Deacon Art officiating. Interment will follow at Quanah Memorial Park under the direction of Smith Funeral Home. Rosary will be at 7 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 22, 2014 at Smith Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Alcantar was born Nov. 4, 1936 in Bishop, Texas to the late Carmen Alcantar, Sr. and Paula Garcia Alcantar. He married Rumalda Lopez on Sept. 21, 1959 in Victoria, Texas. She preceded him in death on April 29, 1997. He was a fork lift operator for Georgia Pacific. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Quanah.
He is survived by one son, Luis Alcantar and wife Analiza; three daughters, Miroslara Alcantar of Wichita Falls, Maria Aleman and husband Gustavo of Vernon, and Anita Alcantar and husband Jamie Rodriguez of San Antonio; a step-daughter, Virginia Reid and husband Josh of Vernon; two brothers, Thomas Alcantar and Juan Alcantar; two sisters, Hiliara Lara and Lupe Jalomo; close friend Eugenia Rodriguez of Quanah; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
