Melanie Diane (Smith) Owen
Melanie Diane (Smith) Owen, 45, of Wichita Falls went to be with her Lord on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, in the East Sanctuary of First Baptist Church, Wichita Falls. Interment will follow at Wilbarger Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Jayson Turner officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Wichita Falls.
Melanie was born on Nov. 21, 1968, in Crane, Texas, to Larry and Jackie Smith. She is survived by her husband, Paul Owen; daughter, Madison, and son, Jayson, of Wichita Falls. She is also survived by her parents, Jackie and Larry Smith of Vernon; brothers, Larry Gee and wife, Shelley, of Vernon, David Gee and wife, Melinda of Wichita Falls, Mickey Smith and wife, Jennifer of Oklahoma City, and a sister, Rhonda Terry and husband, Pat of McLoud, Okla. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Melanie loved family gatherings, taking pictures and scrapbooking. She was very giving and loved to help others. Melanie fought a 2 ½ year courageous battle with ALS. She was involved in MDA-ALS walks and fundraisers. During her illness she touched many lives through her dedication to raise awareness of ALS. She was a very loving mother, wife, sister and daughter. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls. The family would like to thank Engine 6, Corky Scarborough and the rest of the Wichita Falls Firefighters for their love and support of Melanie and her family.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014, at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.
