Syble Duke Ward
Syble Duke Ward, 88, of Amarillo died Monday, Nov. 3, 2014. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 6, 2014, in Eastview Cemetery with Bill White officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Syble was born Nov. 15, 1925, in Eldorado, Okla., to William L. and Betty Mae Beasley. The family moved to Chillicothe when she was seven years old, and the family had a bakery business. She graduated from Chillicothe High School.
Syble married A.C. Duke in 1945, and they made their home in Vernon, where they raised two sons, Randy and Clay Duke. She went to work for the City of Vernon in 1957and moved into the position of the City Manager’s secretary in 1966. After 29 years of service, she retired in 1983. A.C. Duke passed away in 1986.
Syble married Thomas E. Ward in 1992 and they made their home in Quanah.
She was preceded in death by her brother, J.R. Beasley in 1924.
Survivors include two sons, Randy Duke and wife Janet of Austin, and Clay Duke and wife Deree of Amarillo; two stepchildren; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and five step-grandchildren.
