Kay Baskerville Berry
Kay Baskerville Berry, 76, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014 in Olney. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Olney with Chad Edgington, pastor, officiating, assisted by Kelly Russell, pastor of First Baptist Church of Enid, Okla. Interment will follow in Restland Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
Kay was born April 10, 1938 in Vernon to the late William L. and Monette (Hannah) Baskerville. After high school graduation, she attended Baylor University where she met James Donnel Berry. They were married Aug. 17, 1957 in Vernon. Kay later graduated with her Bachelor’s Degree from Midwestern State University and Master’s of Science in Education from East Texas State University. Kay and Don moved to Olney in 1993 from Lancaster, Texas where she was a high school English teacher and guidance counselor. She came to serve as the Olney High School principal and Curriculum Director and Test Coordinator until her retirement. She was always a supporter of her many students and faculty members, striving to encourage them to achieve their goals. Kay was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Olney where she taught Sunday School, served on various committees, and sang in the adult choir. She was also a great encouragement to her Sunday School class members and church staff and was ready to serve where needed. Kay loved her family dearly and would travel many miles for special events in their lives, especially sporting events, concerts and birthdays of her grandchildren.
Kay is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Don Berry of Olney; three sons: Jeff Berry and wife Alicia of Burleson, Andy Berry and wife Becky of Arlington, and Joel Berry of North Richland Hills; one daughter, Amy White and husband Clint of White City, one brother, Mike Baskerville and wife Daphne of Vernon; 12 grandchildren: Ragan Nichols and husband Tyler, Jace Berry, Bailey Berry, Brynn Howerton and husband Neil, Anna Berry, Connor Berry, Braxton Berry, Brock Berry, Colby White and wife Allison, Kaylee Gruhlkey and husband Cameron, Kelsey White, Carli White; and two great-grandchildren: Bralen Nichols and Brody Nichols.
Family visitation will be Friday, Nov. 21, 2014 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney.
