Viola Gilliam Willingham, age 93, passed peacefully from this world on Jan. 24, 2015. Born in Ardmore, Okla., to Ann and Timothy Gilliam, Viola was the oldest of nine children. She married John Willingham on Oct. 28, 1939, and they had 75 amazing years together. Viola is survived by her husband John; a son Gene and wife Helen; a granddaughter, Jennifer and husband Philip of Fort Worth; a grandson, John and wife April of Dallas; and six great-grandchildren, Philip, David, Andrew, Daniel, Abigail and Johnny.
While living in Ardmore, Viola worked for Southwestern Bell for many years. After moving to Vernon in the 1980’s to be closer to family, Viola and John enjoyed watching their grandchildren grow up, get married and have children of their own.
Viola loved the Lord all of her life and remained a member of the First Baptist Church in Ardmore. She will be greatly missed but her family is grateful for the many years of treasured memories.
There will be a graveside service in Ardmore, Okla., at Lone Cedar Cemetery on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, at 1p.m., under the direction of Harvey Douglas Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
