Montie Ray Eavenson
Graveside services for Montie Ray (Slim) Eavenson, 90 of Vernon, who died on Monday, Feb. 2, 2015, in Crowell, will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015 at Crowell Cemetery under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Ron Fox.
Eavenson was born Thursday, March 27, 1924 in Baylor County. He was the son of the late Thomas Everett Eavenson and the late Maggie Baldwin Eavenson. He married Oleta Meharg on July 20, 1943 in Frederick, Okla. She preceded him in death on July 3, 2013. In the 1940s he and his wife worked at the Albino Shipyard in Seattle, Wash..building mine sweeper ships. In 1950 he began working for Waggoner Estate where for 40 years he and his wife lived and worked at the Waggoner Ranch. He attended Western Trail Cowboy Church and First Baptist Church. He was very talented in leather & wood craft. He was a member of Vernon Square Dance Club and Good Sams R.V. Club.
He is survived by his sister, Maggie Faye Duviver of Lompoc, Calif. and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2015 at Sullivan Funeral Home.
