Earlene Brown Barnes
Private graveside services for Earlene Brown Barnes, 85 of Vernon, who died on Thursday, March 5, 2015, in Vernon, will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Eastview Cemetery under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Toby Castleberry.
Barnes was born Sunday, Feb. 16, 1930 in Chillicothe. She is the daughter of the late George Earl Brown and the late Lela Mae Combs Brown. She married Sidney O. Barnes on Dec. 22, 1949 in Vernon. He preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 1996. She had lived all of her life in Hardeman and Wilbarger County. She was a 4-H adult leader, school class mom, active in Parent & Teacher Association and a longtime active member of Home Demonstration Club. She enjoyed baking brownies for friends and neighbors and arranging flowers for the church and friends. She volunteered her time and services in assisting the sick and elderly. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she was a former youth and teen Sunday School teacher and GA director,
She is survived by her daughter, La Donna Ray of Altus, Okla.; sister, Frances Smith of Houston; one grandson, and two great-grandchildren.
