Winifred Stewart Ford

   Winifred Stewart Ford, 75, of Vernon,  died on Monday, July 13, 2015 in Vernon. Funeral services will be held at 10a.m., Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at the Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Early Williams III officiating, and the eulogy by Rev. E.J. Tyson of Oklahoma City, Okla. Interment will be at the Ft. Sill National Cemetery at 2 p.m.,, Wednesday, July 22, 2015.
   Ford was born on Aug. 1, 1939 in Vernon.  She was the daughter of Ollie Stewart and the late Zollie Stewart. She married Lester Ford on June 19, 1960 in Frederick, Okla., and he preceded her in death on March 18, 2015. She had lived in Vernon all of her life. She was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and Prairie View A&M University. She retired from the Vernon Independent School District after 35 years but continued to serve as a substitute teacher until her illness prevented her from doing so. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church where she served as Youth Directress, Adult Sunday School teacher, coordinator of the yearly Easter sunrise service play and as a finance committee member. She was active in the Progressive West Texas Missionary Baptist Association serving as activity director for congress, judge for Activity Day and correspondence secretary for Mission II. She was a member of the Wilbarger General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.
   She is survived by two daughters, Yolanda Smith of South Carolina and Donna Ford of Dallas; one son, Chad Ford of Arlington; her mother, Ollie Stewart of Vernon; brother, Will Stewart of New York, and nine grandchildren.
   She was preceded in death by her father, husband, sister, Julia Parker, and brother, Charles Stewart.
   A memorial service will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday July 21, 2015 at the New Hope Baptist Church, 1001 Houston Street.
