Alice (Jan) Haggerty
QUANAH – Alice (Jan) Haggerty, 70, of Quanah, died on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015, in Vernon. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Holder and Rev. Wayne Hollinshead officiating. Interment following at Quanah Memorial Park under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.
Haggerty was born Feb. 13, 1945 to the late Fox F. and Mary V. Hargrave Richey in Sulphur Springs. She married John W. Haggerty, Jr. in 1993. She graduated from Hawkins High School. She attended the University of North Texas in Denton with a degree in choral music. She taught school in her early career, and then worked as a legal assistant in Dallas for a number of years before retiring from Van Zandt County. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church Quanah, a master gardener and a member of the Daughters of The Republic of Texas.
She is survived by her husband, John W. Haggerty Jr.; three sisters, Myra Mason of Florida, Theva Bauer of Fort Worth and Kay Kennedy of Tyler; 11 niece and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother in 2011 and a sister in 1947.
Family visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 21, 2015, at Smith Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice or the American Cancer Society.
