Daniel Lawrence “Buddy” Boone

   Daniel Lawrence “Buddy” Boone rode peacefully into the sunset on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015 in Hallettsville. Texas. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the Chillicothe Cemetery in Chillicothe under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home, Vernon.
   Buddy was born Aug. 3, 1927 in Wilbarger County, Texas. He was the son of the late Silas Earl Boone and the late Myrtie Thomas Boone. He married Rosie Skoruppa on Oct. 31, 1978 in Corpus Christi.
   He grew up in Chillicothe, Texas and graduated from Chillicothe High School. After serving in the United States Navy in WWII, he worked as a farmer. Buddy worked for M.I. Randall Exploration, Inc., for 28 years then Boone Geophysical, Inc., for 12 years, until his retirement. He lived in Hallettsville, Texas for the last 42 years.
   Buddy was a fun-loving cowboy who never met a stranger. He enjoyed riding horses and raising cattle, especially with his faithful cow dogs, Simon and Rusty, by his side. He could tell a story with a straight face while everyone else was rolling with laughter. Buddy enjoyed going for his morning coffee to the Bel-Air Restaurant “round table” where he was the life of the party.
   He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Rosie Skoruppa Boone of Hallettsville; a son Lynn D. Boone and wife Donna of Huntsville; a daughter Cynthia S. Holden and husband James of Bay City; two step-sons Charles A. Buikema and wife Patti of Terrell, Daniel W. Buikema and wife Debra of Tyler; two step-daughters Deborah A. Miller of San Antonio, and Carol L. Buikema of Mesquite; one sister Oleta Knight of Albuquerque, N.M.; four grandchildren Todd D. Boone of Huntsville, Blake A. Holden and wife Tania  of Silversprings, Md., Neal T. Holden and wife Julianna of Allen, and Drew P. Holden of Nashville, Tenn.; two step-grandchildren, Stephen D. Miller of San Antonio and Danna M. McCann of Bastrop; three great-grandchildren Levi P. Holden of Allen, Shamus M. McCann of Bastrop, and Cecily Jane Holden of Allen.
   He was preceded in death by his brothers James D. Boone and Silas C. “Sibo” Boone and brother-in-law James Knight.
   Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015 at Sullivan Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to Hospice of South Texas 306 N. Texan, Hallettsville, TX. 77964.
