Leona Ferguson Degan

   Leona Ferguson Degan, age 94, passed away Tuesday, Jan.  12, 2016 in Crowell, TX. Graveside service will be held at the Flomot Cemetery, on Friday, Jan. 15, at 2 p.m., under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home, with the Reverend Chris Tucker officiating.
   Leona was born July 28, 1921 in White Star, TX. She was the daughter of the late Walter William Ferguson and the late Callie Doris Winston. She married Joseph Wilbur Degan in 1940 in Silverton, TX. He preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 1992.
   She is survived by her children: Morris Degan and wife, Lou, of Medicine Mound, Texas; Sheila Degan Gilbert and husband, Jerry, of Jacksonville, Ala.; Donna Degan, and the late Stanley Degan of Kalgary, Texas;  her grandchildren,  Sherri Melton and husband, Mark, of Quanah, Texas, Kristi and husband, Bradley, of Chillicothe, Texas, Brian Degan of Medicine Mound, Texas and Misty Degan of Crowell, Texas, Gary Gilbert of Austin, Texas, Jeremy Gilbert and wife Amy, of Jacksonville, Ala., Shawna Abernathy and husband, Jeff of Abilene, Texas, Shay McDaniel and husband, Jimmy of Sundown, Texas, and Dane Degan, and wife Leah of Lubbock, Texas.
   Leona Degan left a legacy of 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.
   She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Degan; son, Stanley Degan, and granddaughters, Melinda Degan, DeAnn Degan, and great-grandson, Ty Melton.
   The Degan household was always open for visitors and Leona truly had the gift of hospitality.  She loved her friends and neighbors almost as much as she did her own family.  Her grandchildren always referred to her as Ma, nieces and nephews called her Aunt Bunny, but the nickname which most closely identified her was roadrunner since she maintained a fast pace at everything she undertook.  Leona Degan was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star & served as Worthy Matron 1950-51 and a member of the United Methodist Church.
   Visitation will at the Sullivan Funeral Home at 1801 Houston Street, Vernon, Texas, on Thursday, Jan. 14, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m
   The Degan family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of Crowell Nursing Center and all of Leona’s Flomot friends who always remembered her with visits and cards.
