Shirley Lee Shelton
Graveside services for Shirley Lee Shelton of Gainesville are set for 10 a.m.,. Wednesday, March 2, 2016, in the McAlister Cemetery, near Overbrook, Okla. Officiating will be Rev. Dewayne Duck. Arrangements are under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Marietta, Okla.
The daughter of Thomas Jefferson Vaughn and Jesse Hazel Sherman Vaughn, Mrs. Shelton was born Aug. 5, 1937 in Chillicothe. She passed away Sunday, Feb. 28, in River Valley Health & Rehab, Gainesville.
A graduate of Odell High School, Odell, Texas with the class of 1954, Shirley then received a bachelor of business degree from Tarrant County College. While in high school she was active in sports and was the high school state tennis champion in Texas. Shirley was employed by the Vernon Daily Record and then the Pampa Daily News. She also worked in retail sales for J.C. Yeatts in Ardmore, Okla., and in receiving for Wal-Mart. Shirley and Willie Byron Shelton were married in Pampa on Feb. 6, 1960, and he preceded her in death on March 21, 2004. Her hobbies included gardening and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Carol Burnett.
Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Donna Shelton of Gainesville, Norman Shelton of Pilot Point, Bobby and Zann Shelton of Ardmore, and Byron Shelton, also of Gainesville; a daughter, Gayle Dobbs of Ardmore; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
