Ruth Lee Clarkson

   Ruth Lee Clarkson, 98 of Vernon, Texas went to be with her loved ones that have gone before her Saturday, March 5, 2016.
   Ruth was born Tuesday, October 16, 1917 in Sweetwater, Texas to Claude Percy Hamilton and Artie Blanche Chapman Hamilton.
   She lived in Northern Wilbarger County from 3-22 years. She attended school at Sherwood and later they moved to Vernon to continue her education. She did complete her education at Decatur Baptist College. While in Decatur she sang in the choir they traveled different towns performing.
   She met and married Charles Marion Clarkson in Frederick, Ok. In 1940 he was working for Amerada on the Goodpasture Discovery Well. They lived in a camp north of Vernon. She went with her husband to Quitman, Seminole, and Midland, TX. Before moving from Midland she got her real estate license. In 1966 he was transferred to Tioga North Dakota. She was a member of the Methodist Church doing needle and handwork for the church bazaar. She sang in the choir and had a beautiful voice. She loved sewing and made almost all of her three daughter’s clothes when they were growing up. In her mid-50’s she got into crocheting tops, table cloths, and wide trim on towels, pillowcases and sheets.
   She was the oldest founding member of the Santa Rosa Cattlewomen Club in Vernon. First meeting was in 1992. Until recently she attended all meetings. She was a member of Fargo United Methodist Church.
   Ruth is survived by her daughters,  Paula Ann Clarkson of Northside, TX., Betty Ruth Conkling and husband Robert Hardy of Fort Worth, TX. and Charlotte Marion Clarkson of Northside, TX; her grandchildren,  Dawn Lee Fortner Wilkinson and husband Joel Clay Wilkinson of Doans Community,  Sara Ruth Conkling Crawford and husband CMR Jonathan Albert Crawford of  Oak Harbor, WA, Richard Hamilton Clarkson II and wife Calli Aker Clarkson of Aledo; six great-grandchildren,  Blythe Cayce Wilkinson of Doans, Blaire Cody Wilkinson of Doans, Noah Hardy Crawford of Oak Harbor, WA., Wesley Charles Crawford of Oak Harbor, WA., Richard Hamilton Clarkson, III of Aledo, TX., and Crue Russell Clarkson of Aledo, TX.
   Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1991 and a son, Richard Hamilton Clarkson in 1982.
   Funeral services will be Friday, March 11, 2016 at 2 p.m., at the Fargo United Methodist Church with Rev. Irl Holt officiating. Burial will be at Bell Cemetery under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
   Visitation will be Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Sullivan Funeral Home.
   Pallbearers will be Nathan Christian, David Wilson, Ronnie Wilson, Jim Anthony, Bo Jones, Cody Crownover.
   Memorials can be made to Methodist Children’s Home, Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, Tipton Children’s Home or Fargo Methodist Church.
