Jose G. Cerda

   CROWELL – Jose G. Cerda, 83, died on Sunday, March 27, 2016 in Crowell. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at the Thalia Cemetery with the Rev. Damon Stalvey, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Crowell, officiating. Interment will be at the Thalia Cemetery under the direction of Womack-Manard Funeral Home, Crowell
   Cerda was born on Oct. 10, 1932 in Tynan, a son of the late Cleofas and Marta Garibay Cerda. He married Celia Barrera on June 18, 1953 in Beeville. He was a graduate of Mathis High School and attended college on a baseball scholarship. He served in the U. S. Army in a gunner artillery combat unit during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Catholic Church. He was a retired ginner and farmer.
   Survivors include his wife, Celia Cerda of Crowell; two daughters, Lydia Christopher of Crowell and Lilly Vasquez of Vernon; four sons, Arthur Cerda of Vernon, Louis Cerda of Crowell, Abel Cerda of Electra and Bobby Cerda of Crowell; one sister, Alicia Wakulsky of Houston, and one brother, Reynaldo Cerda of Houston; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
   Memorials may be made to the Thalia Cemetery Association.
