Jim Hughes

   Jim Hughes, 87, of Perry, Okla., died on Tuesday, March 29, 2016.  Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Christ Lutheran Church in Perry, Okla.  with interment to follow at Richburg Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Palmer Marler Carberry Funeral Home, Perry, Okla.
   Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at the funeral home chapel with family greeting friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
   Hughes was born on Jan. 15, 1929 in Stillwater, Okla., to William Theodore and Flora May “Aunt Sis” (Howell) Hughes.  He grew up in Perry, Okla. and graduated from Perry High School in 1947. Following his graduation, he started his long career at Ditch Witch and retired from there after 42 years. He and his wife Maxine Johnson were married in Perry on Nov. 13, 1949.  Along with working at Ditch Witch, Hughes farmed and raised cattle. He was an avid gardener.
   Hughes is survived by his wife Maxine of the home; children, Bill Hughes of Perry, Okla., daughter, Deanna Vargas of Vernon; brother, Tom Hughes of Perry, Okla.; seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Randy Hughes, and grandson, Case Hughes.
