Nelson Edward Dye, 72 of Vernon, died on Sunday, April 10, 2016, in Vernon. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Eastview Cemetery under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Dye was born Monday, March 20, 1944 in Vernon. He was the son of the late Clyde Dye and the late Dela Mae Cowley. He married Patricia Gail Hickey in 1965. She preceded him in death on Oct. 22, 2002. He served in the U.S. Army 101ST Air-Bourne Division, Green Beret, in the Korean War and in Vietnam. He retired after 12 years of service as a Staff SSgt. He also received a Purple Heart. He worked for Wright Brand Food for 25 years as a line leader, retiring in 2005.
He is surviving by his son, Robert K. Dye of Vernon; one sister, Margaret Grene of Macon, Ga.; two grandchildren and many uncles and aunts. He was preceded in death by a brother, Avi Ray Dye.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Sullivan Funeral Home.
