George Elbert Foreman

George Elbert Foreman, 69 of Johnstown, passed away peacefully at his home on April 13, 2016 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer and Type I diabetes.  George was born April 14, 1946 in Eagle Pass, TX, the only child to Elbert Wilson and W. Pauline (Zachary) Foreman.
The family moved to Odessa, TX where he attended elementary school and worked for his parents at their toy store from a very young age. In 1958 they moved to Vernon, TX where his parents managed a 5 & dime store. George learned much about business as he worked alongside his parents at these stores. George graduated from Vernon High School in 1964. He was a proud member of the football team and made lifelong friendships there. In 1968, he graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock with a degree in Accounting. While at Tech, he met Barbara Cherry, and they married on July 5, 1968.
George served in the U.S. Army Reserves in a Civil Affairs unit from 1968-1975. He worked for Main Lafrentz & Co. accounting firm in Lubbock before he worked for Helena Chemical Co. He was transferred to Helena’s corporate office in Memphis, TN and in 1978 the family moved to Colorado to begin his own accounting practice. Over the years he had offices in Loveland, Windsor, Greeley and Johnstown. After he sold the practice, he worked for 5 Star Turf before retiring in 2012. He also served on the board of directors of the Weld County Humane Society for several years.
After an amicable divorce in 1997, George met his long time companion, Sallie Marti. He enjoyed country dancing for which he won awards, fishing and camping, computer games, spending time with his family and friends, and a cold 90 Shilling.  George was a gentle man with a dry sense of humor and a loving spirit.  He will be greatly missed.
George is survived by his daughters Pamela Bowles and her daughter Cerise of Austin, Texas and Sandra (Wes) Sutter and their children Mitchell and Olivia of Georgetown, Kentucky; long time companion Sallie Marti of Johnstown, CO and her daughters Kharen, Tish, Jennifer and Alesha; ex-wife Barbara Foreman of Windsor, CO; as well as many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Celebration of George’s life will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at the Allnutt Macy Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to AccentCare Hospice in Windsor or the Humane Society of Weld County in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 702 13th Street, Greeley, CO, 80631.  Friends may view the online obituary and send condolences at www.allnutt.com.
