Jim Reed
Funeral service for Jim Reed, age 66, of Davidson, Okla. will be at 10 a.m., Friday, April 22, 2016, at Jackson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Irl Holt officiating. Burial will follow in the Davidson Cemetery under the direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mr. Reed passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at his home in Davidson.
Jim Reed was born on April 22, 1950, in Frederick, Okla. to Jim and Juanita (Parker) Reed. He grew up in Davidson, attended school and graduated from Davidson High School in 1968. He continued his education at Southwestern State University in Weatherford, Okla. Jim was united in marriage to Dorthy Hill on June 30, 1972, in Woodward. In 1971, he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Education/Mathematics and in 1973; he received his Master’s Degree in Math. Later Jim did post-graduate work and earned a Superintendent Certification from Abilene Christian University in Abilene,Texas. Jim had taught and coached in Hunter, Okla. and Harold, Texas until he moved to Northside Independent School District, Vernon, Texas, in 1975. He coached high school football and basketball and taught all levels of math 7-12 grades. In 1977, he became principal of Northside School K-12. Jim was named Superintendent of Schools at Northside in 1979, where he remained until his retirement in 2002. During his tenure, he was known for guiding the district through a period of diminishing financial resources while adding services to the school. Once he retired, he and Dorthy moved to Davidson to farm and take care of his mom.
He is survived by his wife, Dorthy Reed of 44 years of the home; two children, Jim C. Reed and his wife Tonya of Vernon, Texas, and Kyla Johnson and her husband Jeremy of Mustang; five grandchildren, Hannah and Addi Reed of Vernon, Texas, and Landon, Jenna and Eli Johnson of Mustang, Okla.; his mother, Juanita Reed of Stroud, Okla.; two sisters, Linda Morrison and her husband Dean of Stroud, Okla. and Janie Poland and her husband Shawn of Ockechobee, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2016 from 5 p.m. to7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Northside I.S.D. Memorial Fund or to the Davidson Cemetery Fund in memory of Jim Reed.
