Thelma A Owenbey, 70 of Vernon, died on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, in Wichita Falls. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, May 9, 2016 at Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Ron Fox.
Owenbey was born Thursday, July 26, 1945 in Arkansas. She was the daughter of the late William Spears and the late Viola Cogburn Spears. She married Ted Sokora in 1961, and he preceded her in death in 1984. She later married K.L. Owenbey in 1984. He preceded her in death in 2003. She had lived in Vernon since 1959. She worked for Vernon Foods and Central Market. She was a member of Church of God in Vernon. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her son, Ken Owenbey II of Vernon; her daughter, Peggy Smith of Vernon; one brother, Ray Spears of Vernon; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Robert Sokora, in 2011; one sister, Vernice Johnson in 2015, and two brothers, Virgil and Glen Spears.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, May 8, 2016 at Sullivan Funeral Home.
Memorials can be made to Wilbarger County Humane Society or American Cancer Society.
