Valerie Carol Barr, 37 of Abilene, died on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, in Abilene. Service will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 3 p.m., at the Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Toby Castleberry and Randy Echols officiating. Interment will follow at Wilbarger Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.
Valerie was born Thursday, Feb. 8, 1979 in Wichita Falls. She was the daughter of Virgil Lee and Patty Smith. She married Brandon Barr on Nov. 1, 2004 in Vernon. She graduated from Vernon High School in 1997 and graduated from the Vernon College Cosmetology department in 1997. She had worked as a beautician in Vernon and at the Vernon State Hospital. In Abilene she had currently been working as an MHMR Technician for the Betty Hardwick Foundation. She had previously lived in Japan on the Yokota Air Base and had worked as a teacher while there. She was a member of the Fountain Gate Church in Abilene.
Surviving are her husband, Brandon Barr of the home; two sons, Matthew Holladay of Abilene and Lathen Barr of Abilene; parents, Patty and Emmett Matthews of Vernon and Virgil Lee of Vernon; sister, Stefanie Lee Johnson of Vernon; precious niece, Nadia Gaines of Vernon; step-brother, Michael Matthews of Vernon; step-sister, Tiffany Lee of Vernon; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held at Calvary Baptist Church starting at 2 pm until service time.
Memorials may be made to the American Lupus Foundation or a favorite charity.
